Florian Uhlig


Florian Uhlig was born in Düsseldorf and gave his first piano recital at the age of twelve. He studied at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Florian Uhlig made his orchestral debut in 1997 at the Barbican in London. Since then, his busy concert schedule has taken him to the most important international concert halls. He has performed with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, the Bavarian Radio Chamber Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. His artistic collaborations have brought him together with conductors such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Josep Caballé, Claus Peter Flor, Eivind Gullberg Jensen, Kristjan Järvi, Michail Jurowski, Michael Sanderling and Gerard Schwarz. Florian Uhlig has been invited to festivals including the Beethoven Festivals in Bonn and Warsaw, the Casals Festival, Lorin Maazel’s Castleton Festival, the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, the Hong Kong Arts Festival, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, France Musique Paris, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Schwetzinger Festspiele and the Wiener Festwochen.
Florian Uhlig has released around 30 recordings on the hänssler CLASSIC label, which have received high praise and awards from the international music press. His 19-volume Schumann cycle was honoured with the Annual German Record Critics’ Award 2021, an OPUS KLASSIK 2022 and the Robert Schumann Prize of the City of Zwickau 2023. Appointed Professor of Piano at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden in 2014, Florian Uhlig accepted an appointment at the Lübeck University of Music in October 2019. He gives masterclasses in Germany, Switzerland, France, Great Britain, Hong Kong, China, South Korea, Canada and the USA. In May 2015, Florian Uhlig was awarded honorary membership of the Royal Academy of Music in London.
