- A virtuoso Etude by Chopin or Liszt (excluding Études pour le piano en douze exercices) or Bartók or Saint-Saëns or Debussy or Rachmaninov or Scriabin or Prokofiev or Stravinsky or Ligeti or comparable
- A selection of works by Carl Maria von Weber:
6 Variations sur l‘air de Naga de ‚Samori‘ op.6 or 7 Variations on „Vien quà, Dorina bella“ op. 7 or 7 Variations on an Original Theme op. 9 or Grande polonaise op. 21 or Piano Sonata No. 1 in C major op. 24 or 7 Variations on “A peine au sortir de l’enfance” op. 28 or 9 Variations op. 40 or Piano Sonata No. 2 in A flat major op. 39 or Piano Sonata 3 in D minor op. 49 or 7 Variations on a Gipsy Song op. 55 or Rondo brillante op. 62 or Invitation to the Dance op. 65 or Polacca brillante op. 72 or Piano Sonata No. 4 in E minor op. 70 (single movements of the sonatas are admitted)
2nd Round (30-40 minutes)
- A sonata or the first movement of the sonata (one sonata-allegro movement) by Haydn or Mozart or Beethoven (excluding op. 49) or Schubert
- One or more works or single movements from the Baroque period up to the present
3rd Round – Final Round

One of the following piano concertos has to be prepared for the final with the Hochschulsinfonieorchester conducted by Prof. Ekkehard Klemm:
Carl Maria von Weber: Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Op. 11 or Piano Concerto No. 2 in E flat major, Op. 32 or Konzertstück (Concert Piece) in F minor, J.282, Op. 79 or Clara Schumann: Piano concerto in A minor, Op. 7 or Robert Schumann: Piano concerto in A minor, Op. 54 or Frédéric Chopin: Piano concerto No. 1 E minor, Op. 11
